ENTERY FORMALITIES

passport and visa

A valid Passport with Entry Visa is required of all visitors. A Tourist Visa allows a stay of 28 days, extendible for an additional 14 days. A Business Visa allows a stay of 28 days, extendible up to 12 months on a case-by-case basis. Visa on Arrival is granted on prior arrangement.  Overstayed tourists must pay fine 3 dollars per day and can be settled at the airport before leaving.

Overland entry is allowed for toursis with visa at Tachilek, and Kawthaung check points along Myanmar-Thai Border; and at  Muse along Myanmar-China Border. 
Overland entry is not possible for tourists to India, Bangladesh and Laos.

Customs

Foreign currency above US $ 2000, jewelleries, and professional cameras must be decleared at the airport. Export of antiques and archaeologically valuable items are prohibited.

Duty free allowance: Two bottles of liquor; two cartons of cigarettes: 100 cigars; 1.5 lb of tobacco; one pint bottle of perfume or eau decologne.

Currency

Myanmar currency is the Kyat, made up of 100 pyas. Currency notes come in the following denominations: K 1000, K 500, K 200, K 100, K 20,  K 10, K 5 and  K 1 . Visitors are not allowed to bring in or take out Kyats.

Health

No vaccination certificate is required unless coming from an infected area.

Foreign Exchange

Visitor may bring in any amount of foreign currency but it must be decleared to the customs if it exceeds US $ 2000.

FECs, Foreign Exchange Certificates, published by Myanmar government, is equicalent to US Dollars in $ 20, $ 10, $ 5 and $ 1 denominations. FECs can be purchased with U$ Dollars or euro  in cash . FECs are accepted by hotels, airlines, travel agencies, taxis, restaurants, and as payment of admission fees for museums, and pagoda. FECs can be exchanged for kyats at market rates.

All kinds of Credit Cards such as.... American Express, Visa, Master and Diner Club, Travellers Cheques  are not accepted in Myanmar due to US government sanction and all tourists need to bring cash in US Dollars or Euro.
